PoE & power budgets

Know before the install that every switch and power supply can carry its load – PoE budgets, power supply amps, battery hours and voltage drop, while you design.

PoE & power budgets

PoE budget per switch

Watts used against the switch’s PoE budget and ports, with the 80 % rule – and which devices need PoE+ (802.3at) or PoE++ (802.3bt).

Power supplies

Amps used against the output of each power supply or access panel – locks, readers and other 12/24 V devices.

Battery hours

Standby time from the battery size and the load, and the battery you need for your target hours.

Voltage drop

Per run from the wire gauge (e.g. 18/2) and the length – flagged when it is above your limit.

Questions

How does a device know its power source?

From its cable run (the device at the end), or choose it in “Powered by”.

Where do the watts come from?
